Four Ways To Protect Yourself From The Sun's Rays

It is hard when your skin is damaged because this is your first line of defense. The skin keeps away all sorts of invaders but once it is damaged there is no holding back. A damaged skin can also result to you losing self-esteem and confidence.

The skin acts in the same way as your clothes function. If your clothes protect your skin then the skin protects the other body parts. We often take our skin for granted but it would serve us good if we start to take care of it. Here are some ways that can help you protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun.

1. Time. Take note of the time. Remember that the earth revolves around the sun so there is a point during the day when the sun is shining so bright that it burns your skin. Going out at noon will surely expose you to a lot of sun. Too much sun means too many UV rays. If you want to go strolling it would be best to go out early in the morning when the sun is not fully up or late in the afternoon when the sun is no longer at its peak. If you have to go out when the sun is high do not stay outside for a long time.

2. Sun block or sunscreen. You will have to use this all year round. Just because it's autumn or winter doesn't mean that there is no sun. Remember that the sun is always up no matter what the season is. So to protect yourself from its harmful rays use sun block or sunscreen before you go out. Sun block or sunscreens are best absorbed when the skin is moist so before applying wash with warm water.

3. Clothing. We all know what the clothing trend is today. Everything seems to get shorter and shorter exposing more skin. Even though it is trendy, wearing clothes that expose too much skin will put you in harm's way especially if you have to stay out under the sun for a prolonged period of time. If you have to stay out, wear something that can cover most of the parts of your body. You can also use a hat or umbrella to protect your face.

4. Location. Indeed it is fun to bask in the sun but it is safe to stay in the shade. When walking outside look for shaded spots. If a roofed footpath is available, then use it. If you are in the park bring something that will provide shade like a huge umbrella or stay under the tree. Do not stay near a lake or any body of water because the rays of the sun will reflect from the water.

It has always been said that prevention is better than cure. So before something bad strikes you, it would be best to protect yourself. The outdoors can be fun but be sure that you keep your skin safe while enjoying it.
