Four Types Of Moisturizers

Women with really oily skin don't have to moisturize because their body is already producing too much oil and if they do they will only aggravate the situation. Too much oil can clog the pores and clogged pores can be a problem especially on the face.

Women with normal skin don't have to moisturize often because their body already produces enough sebum to keep their skin moisturized. However, if they are living in areas where there is constant cold weather or are frequently exposed to water, then they may moisturize using oil-free moisturizers.

Lastly, if a woman has really dry skin then the moisturizer is her best friend. Dry skin can be itchy and probably unsightly. Dry skin happens when the body is unable to produce the right amount of oil. To remedy such a situation women with dry skin should moisturize as often as possible. Moisturizing can be tricky and knowing the types of moisturizers can help serve as your guide.

1. Oil free moisturizers. From the term itself, it is safe to conclude that this type of moisturizer doesn't contain any amount of oil in order to trap moisture. This type is ideal for women who have normal skin simply because they don't need more oil to keep their body moisturized. Instead of oil, this type relies on ingredients like glycol, glycerin, colloidal oatmeal and collagen to help trap moisture. These ingredients are collectively known as humectants.

2. Long lasting moisturizers. This type of moisturizer is usually used by women who live in areas of extreme cold weather or in areas where the weather is constantly dry. Using ordinary moisturizers may not be enough because this will barely last through a day or better yet barely last for more than two hours.

Some people consider long lasting moisturizers as too much but then again there are some situations that call for this type of moisturizer. Most long lasting moisturizers are a combination of a number of humectants and occlusive agents. Remember to use only long lasting moisturizers in severe cases of dryness or dry skin.

3. Emulsion based moisturizers. Oil and water don't mix. No matter how much you shake it water and oil will never come together. To solve this, an emulsifying agent is needed to bind the two together.

Water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsions can both be used to moisturize dry skin. We all know that women with dry skin have very little oil on their body; however, one must remember not to use this type of moisturizer on normal skin because normal skin doesn't need the extra oil.

4. Occlusive moisturizers. This moisturizer works by creating a thin film over the skin in order to trap moisture. Examples of these occlusive moisturizers are Vaseline and mineral oils. Use of occlusive moisturizers is not really recommended because this type of moisturizer often times clogs pores that can result to skin breakouts. Occlusive moisturizers should only be used when dry skin doesn't respond to emulsion based moisturizers.

Moisturizers have become a must have body product for women; however, use of moisturizers should be done with great care because the key to fully benefit from them is finding the right type for one's skin.
